🌤️ Day Trip Itinerary Template

A day trip itinerary template built backward from the last train home, with a “How long” column so the day adds up before you're standing on the platform. Print it, download it for Excel or Google Sheets, or customize it in the builder.

Day Trip Itinerary FAQ

How many stops fit in a day trip?

Three or four anchors — one big thing, two small ones, and a meal. Transit and walking eat more of the day than anyone expects, which is what the “How long” column is for: add it up, and if it passes eight hours, drop a stop.

Why plan backward from the last train?

Because it's the only fixed point. Put the return departure in first, then fill the day from the top; the gap between the last stop and the train is your buffer, and it should be at least 30 minutes.

What if I'm driving instead?

Replace “Getting there” with drive times and parking notes — the Road Trip template shows that layout. Parking at popular trailheads and museums fills before 10 AM on weekends, so the first stop is the one that needs a parking plan.
