Alaska Cruise Packing List FAQ
What should I wear on an Alaska cruise?
Layers with a waterproof outer shell. Southeast Alaska is a temperate rainforest, so rain is normal in every summer month, and a deck at cruising speed is much colder than the same air standing still. Base layer, fleece, waterproof jacket, hat and gloves, and waterproof shoes cover glacier days and port days both.
Do I still need formal clothes?
Yes — Alaska sailings run the same dining room dress codes as any other itinerary, usually one or two dressier evenings on a seven-night trip, printed in the daily program. One outfit is enough, and it is the only thing on this list you will not also wear on deck.
Are binoculars worth packing?
They are the item people most often wish they had brought. Whales, bears, and eagles are usually spotted at a distance from the ship or a small boat, and phone zoom turns them into pixels. A compact waterproof pair is enough, and ships that lend them do not have one per passenger.
